OK, I found the problem, I think. My original problem was that when my program was not running in normal mode (SIGTSTP or similar) the program was still sending character data to the terminal, causing the ANSI escape sequences to change the background color and similar. I commented the code that was calling getch() and the problem was solved.
The reason I didn't think it was a problem was that even when running under Wine, the ANSI escape sequences changed the background color correctly, but when I tried running with SIGHUP it didn't. And the Wine version didn't work correctly either. I think the Wine code was just ignoring my SIGTSTP and the ANSI escape sequences were still being sent. I changed the program to work in normal mode instead, and now it works with my Wine installation.
I am still not 100% sure why this does not work in the native version.
The Blue Jays signed Kevin Pillar to a one-year, $2.25MM contract, reports Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports (via Twitter). The deal includes a $200K vesting option for 2018 and a $500K buyout, if the option is declined, which Heyman says is “probably the best deal for both sides” (Twitter links).
The team has been keen to bolster their depth at second base and Heyman notes that Pillar’s deal will not interfere with Mark DeRosa’s roster spot.
“It’s a good fit for them and it’s a good fit for us,” Pillar told FanRag’s Jon Paul Morosi. “It’s all good.”
Pillar, 30, had some minor surgery in the offseason but looks to be back at full strength, per MLB.com’s Gregor Chisholm. “Everything went well,” Pillar said. “I’m excited about this year and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
The former Cardinals and Cubs player is a career.280/.326
